Why Join NLLC?

Community

As a member, you will be eligible to participate in NLLC community-building events throughout the year, like our potluck meetups, group camping trips, group hiking, summer camp and field trips. Being part of a co-op provides support and guidance from other homeschooling parents and families. Sometimes knowing that you are not the only parent that has gone through the same issue can be a relief and talking with other parents can help provide encouragement and possible solutions. Being part of a co-op also provides the opportunity to build friendships and socialization with other homeschoolers. Our co-op classes cover a range of ages, not just one grade level, allowing students to learn to relate with others of all ages.

Education

As a member, you will be eligible to enroll your child in NLLC classes that are taught by fellow homeschool parents and (more rarely) paid instructors. Drawing on the expertise of others to teach subjects you may not have a lot of knowledge in or you just do not enjoy teaching, gives you a break from teaching every subject. You will also lead or co-lead a class if you wish. Students also gain the benefit of learning from someone else for a change, adapting to other teaching styles, and experiencing being part of group learning environment. Some subjects are more fun as a group.

Resources

Being a member of NLLC can provide your children the opportunity to learn about subjects and possible careers (that you may not have thought of) by parents and experts that are passionate about those fields. Over the years NLLC has offered classes in Capoeira, Robotics, Woodworking, Spanish, Coding, Biology, Anatomy, Art, Theater, and so much more!

Being part of NLLC can also help make homeschooling more affordable by sharing expenses on supplies and materials that may be too expensive for one family to afford.

Annual Membership

The annual Family Membership fee is $60.

Classes

Classes are $15 per class per child. Classes may have additional material fees as described on the Classes Page.

NLLC Cooperative

NLLC co-op members share in the work of running the organization to make our goals a success.

Contact Us

If you have additional questions or would like to schedule a tour, please contact us.

To keep costs low, NLLC does not have any paid salaries. Membership and class fees go directly to rent, insurance, and shared resources.
If the cost is a barrier to becoming a NLLC member or attending classes, please contact us.

All NLLC members are asked to share in the work of running our co-op. This work can be large or small, depending on what your schedule can accommodate, and may take many forms, including: coordinating a club, managing the NLLC Facebook page, teaching a class, serving on the board, organizing a field trip or NLLC event, or providing assistance with the operation of the co-op (for example, overseeing the cleaning schedule). The more help we get from our members, the more smoothly things will run!

Once your registration has been processed, you will receive an email invitation to join the “Northern Light Core listserv” – this is where we share important information about our community, including key dates, social gatherings, class listings and schedule changes. Be sure to watch your emails for the invitation to join the listserv so that you don’t miss key updates!

At this time we are no longer requiring indoor masking- but we encourage you to make the right choice for you and your family. We also request that if anyone in your family is ill to consider rejoining classes once everyone is well again.
