DESCRIPTION:We are so excited to announce that NLLC will hold Summer Day Camp again this year at Camp Comstock Girl Scout Camp\, 1419 Taughannock Blvd. in Ithaca. This year’s camp  will be from 9 am to 3 pm Monday\, August 26th through Thursday\, August 29th and we plan to have several fun activities to do each day\, from nature hikes\, swimming\, art\, storytelling\, building projects and more. \nThere will also be a potluck party from 3 to 6 pm on Thursday\, August 29th. \nRegistration for 1 to 2 days of camp is $50 per family and registration for 3 to 4 days of camp $100 per family. SUMMARY:Discover Cayuga Lake-Lake & Land Tour for ages 8+
DESCRIPTION:Join us for one of our summer cruises\, in support of a unique opportunity to engage our teenage Youth Guides as they train to be eco-tour guides. These cruises are our Lake & Land Tours and take place on Thursdays from 10-2. They include a one-hour\, narrated cruise from the Treman Marina up to Taughannock Park\, a guided waterfall hike\, a kayak or stand-up paddle\, or simply a hangout at Taughannock Park for ~ 1.5 hours\, and then another hour-long\, narrated cruise back to Treman\, with lunch and some interactive activities on board. The tours support training for our Youth Guides (some teens as young as 13 work with us!) as they learn important job skills related to environmental education\, conservation\, public speaking\, etc. and we want to make sure they have an audience to practice with. I feel like this could be really inspiring for some of our NLLC tweens and teens to see. \nOur Lake & Land Tours take place from July 11th – August 15th\, with a final ‘take-over’ of the cruise by our Youth Guides (on the 15th) after they’ve learned all the ropes. It’s amazing\, and fun\, to see them put it all into play! (And of course\, experienced\, senior crew are always on the boat supervising the overall guest experience.) These cruises were initially conceived for tourists but are proving to be a great training platform for our youth guides\, and we are now seeing them as a valuable way to offer low-cost opportunities to experience this great tour for community members too. \nThe cruises are normally $70/adult\, but we are in a position to offer them for free\, if necessary\, or at lesser costs. We can talk about what price point would work for our group. \nWhen: August 15\, 2024 from 10 am to 2 pm\nWhere: Meeting at the Treman Marina 15 to 20 min before departing\nWho: Hana Pandori is leading this field trip\nWhat: 4 hour cruise on Cauga Lake with hike/paddle board at Toughannock Park. Bring your own lunch\, hiking attire and water bottles\nHow: Sign into member portal and fill out “Discover Cayuga Lake-Lake & Land Tour for ages 8+”  form for each child. There is room for 15 children and 5 chaperones.

SUMMARY:Hot Glue Guns + “Garbage” = Sculpture! (3 of 3)
DESCRIPTION:I have an impressive collection of inspiring objects that I’ve refused to throw away over the years. I can’t even tell you how long I’ve been imagining hosting this class for. Every time I looked at these pieces of “trash” I saw art\, and I saw an opportunity to reuse some of our culture’s massive amount of waste\, and I just couldn’t throw them away: so\, now I have boxes and boxes of\, let’s call them found objects\, waiting to become art supplies to help us manifest our creative visions! I can’t wait to see what sculptures we all will create (I encourage parents to create\, as well). \n I have some scissors\, hot glue guns\, and glue sticks\, and different kinds of tape\, to share but\, please\, if you are able\, bring your own art tool kit containing scissors and other cutting devices\, as well a hot glue gun\, and other kinds of adhesives\, such as glue and tape\, that you might like to use to create your sculptures. Ideally you would label things with your name. (And bring lunch.) \nWe will have a short opening circle at 10:30 to help us continue our community building with each other. This will be followed by crafting our sculptures on tables and rugs in and around the garage. We will have lunch at 12:00\, followed by time to free play\, and/or craft more\, before our time together comes to an end.

SUMMARY:Hike & Picnic Lunch At Chestnut Lean-To
DESCRIPTION:Johanna and Nora Brown are leading this field trip\, along with their kiddos. We’ll meet at 12pm in the trail parking lot at the southern end of Comfort Road Extension\, where it meets Bald Hill Road in Danby (Spencer zip code). There is a short walk along the road to reach the trail-head. The trail can be muddy in spots\, and includes a small creek ford as well as a good deal of roots and rocks. \nWe’ll hike to the Chestnut Lean-To on a stretch of the Finger Lakes Trail\, and enjoy a picnic lunch together and time to play and hang out in the woods. This is a fairly gentle\, half-mile hike in the Danby State Forest\, which takes about 20 minutes for hikers who like to blaze ahead\, and maybe more like 40 minutes with wee kiddos in tow. The area around the Lean-To is lovely and wooded\, with a nearby creek for splashing. \nWe’ve done this walk happily with kids of all ages\, from babies in carriers to walking toddlers to mighty tweens. There is unfortunately not a wheelchair accessible path to the lean-to. The trail may not work well for folks with mobility challenges. \nPlease pack a picnic lunch you can easily carry with you\, as well as any other supplies you need to safely enjoy your time in the woods like water\, hats\, bugspray\, sunscreen (the leaves won’t be fully out on the trees yet!) and comfortable shoes and clothes… maybe your tree or bird ID book? Binoculars? 🙂\nThere is an out-house at the lean-to. \nParking lot at the very end of Comfort Rd. Extension\, where it meets Bald Hill Rd. Danby\, but with a Spencer Zip Code\, NY 14883 United States
